Cannon AFB, NM- At 4:59P.M., Cannon Air Force Base personnel received a message that read, “There is an active shooter on Cannon AFB. Last known location was bldg #1408/HOSPITAL. All non-response personnel should seek shelter immediately until further notice.” The alleged suspect remains at large and the shelter in place has yet to be lifted.
Cannon Air Force Base urgently advises residents of Cannon and Chavez to take shelter in place until further notice. As of 7:28 p.m., the base is actively implementing its shooter protocol, prompting residents of both Cannon AFB and Chavez housing areas to remain sheltered until further instructions are provided, according to information shared on Cannon AFB’s Facebook page.
Security Forces are presently engaged in thorough clearing operations and searches across the base. Fortunately, there are no reported injuries at this time, as confirmed by Cannon AFB’s official Facebook statement.
According to Curry County Sheriff Mike Reeves, Cannon Air Force Base is currently on lockdown as law enforcement investigates reports of an active shooter. Various law enforcement agencies, including Clovis PD, state police, and county officers, are actively involved in the investigation on base.
